Due to the strict and controlled nature of tobacco freight forwarding, it’s necessary to have a standalone company that deals with the specialist nature of this commodity. GTC is the specialist tobacco freight forwarding entity for the TLS group of companies.

True tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, smoking tobacco) are classified in chapter 24 of the UK Trade Tariff and Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) titled ‘Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes’. Tobacco related products such as tobacco oil and smoking replacement treatments are classified elsewhere in the Tariff.

GTC has taken the time to navigate through the complex global legislation of the UK, EU and US to understand the formalities and procedures necessary to import Tobacco and Tobacco Substitutes from countries overseas.

Since tobacco and tobacco products are classified as primary agricultural products, import is allowed subjected to bio security. Bio security is the procedure and measures designed to protect the population against harmful biological or biochemical substances. An import sanitary permit or Phyto sanitary certificate, or both, it may be required in most of countries to import tobacco or tobacco products. We can help with that.

Tobacco products imported or offered for import into the United States must comply with all the applicable requirements under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), as amended by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act).
